Who are we?

'Worship In Northampton' (or WIN!) is just a name, that's all. We're not a church, we're not a company, we're not a charity or even an organisation. (Especially not an organisation!)

We're simply a bunch of worship leaders who think it's good to meet and pray together, to support each other, to worship together, and to learn from each other.

If you'd like to find out more, why not talk to someone who has been to a meeting already? Talk to worship leaders from any of these churches (diplomatically listed them in alphabetical order!) - if the person you're talking to doesn't know what you're talking about, ask someone else in the same worship group until you find whoever it was who came along!

What we've been up to so far (in reverse chronological order, CV-style)

1 July 2009 - Unity College Faithfest.

25 June 2009 - Unity College Faithfest technical rehearsal.

19 June 2009 - St Mary's Far Cotton Sixth practice for Faithfest.

12 June 2009 - St Mary's Far Cotton Fifth practice for Faithfest.

6 June 2009 - St Gregory's Ros Powell was the speaker at a one-day seminar on prophecy, and one of us was asked to help lead the worship. An amazing day - you missed a treat.

5 June 2009 - St Mary's Far Cotton Fourth practice for Faithfest.

29 May 2009 - Emmanuel Church, Weston Favell Centre Third practice for Faithfest.

22 May 2009 - St Mary's Far Cotton Second practice for Faithfest.

15 May 2009 - Queensgrove First practice for Faithfest.

17 April 2009 - Emmanuel Most of our time was spent in worship and prayer, but we took some time out to discuss Faithfest material.

13 March 2009 - St Mary's Far Cotton We had a chat about Faithfest, and discussed some of the issues in leading worship. Many thanks to Brian for his sensitive leading.

13 February 2009 - Kingsley Park Methodist Church - led by Kingsley Park's organist.

16 January 2009 - Astcote Methodist Church - worship-leaders were invited to share worship songs (and 'message' songs) they'd composed themselves, and the results were not only thought-provoking and challenging but also very impressive technically and musically.

19 December 2008 - Worship-leaders tend to be rather busy in December, what with carol services and midnight masses and Christmas Day services and all the rest of it, so we didn't hold a December meeting.

14 November 2008 - St Mary's, Far Cotton - Ted Hales came to announce a worship event happening in Northampton in mid-2009, and to ask for help in planning it. Several of us are now on the planning team.

17 October 2008 - Queensgrove Methodist Church - we discussed the possibility of providing 'worship assistance' for two churches who are a little short on worship leaders. The plan here is to step in, help out at services, identify potential worship leaders in the congregation, teach them, nurture them, and let them take the lead more and more, until it becomes practical to step out again and leave them to it. [We started 'worship assistance' at one church in Nov 2008, providing two leaders for six months - in fact, until June 2009, and one of the leaders shows no signs of quitting even now. We also provided one leader to another church starting in March 2009, and this is ongoing.]

12 September 2008 - Queensgrove Methodist Church - learning a four-part harmony the Right Way - phrase by pains-taking phrase. The resulting sound was magnificent. We will certainly be doing this again! "Now we know we can do it!", said one of the participants.

15 August 2008 - Emmanuel Church, Weston Favell - a brief exploration of Lilypond (music transcription software) and FreeWorship (a manuscript organising tool).

18 July 2008 - Astcote Methodist Church - split into two groups, one focussing on microphone practice whilst the other tried its collective hand at composing a chorus.

13 June 2008 - St Mary's, Far Cotton - in the first meeting, which was attended by worship leaders from ten Northampton churches, we brainstormed a bit and discussed things like venues, frequency, and content.
