Christian Voice puts pressure on councils

Stephen Green, national director of Christian Voice, is turning the spotlight on local authorities which provide funding for a musical entitled "Jerry Springer - the Opera". Music lovers need not be concerned, however, because Mozart it ain't. No, this "opera" appears to be an excuse to cram as many blasphemies and swear words as possible into its running time. This is even less of a contribution to the arts than John Cage's famous 4"33', which comprises a little over four and a half minutes of complete silence.

The Springer people should take note. Sometimes, silence is golden. But if they insist on making a noise, they can hardly blame Christian Voice for wanting its say too. Mr Green has said that he will consider putting up council candidates to stand at the next council elections against councillors who support their theatres financially.
